The U.S. Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Monday, February 17, in observance of Presidents’ Day, a federal holiday in the United States.

The embassy made the announcement in a short statement on Sunday, confirming that normal operations will resume on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.

“The U.S. Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Monday, February 17, 2025, in observance of Presidents’ Day. We will resume normal operations on Tuesday, February 18, 2025,” the statement read.

President’s Day, also known as Washington’s Birthday, is a federal holiday in the United States that celebrates the birthday of George Washington, the first president of the United States. It is observed on the third Monday in February each year.

While the holiday originally honoured Washington, over time it has come to be seen as a day to celebrate all U.S. presidents, past and present.
